Europa news: Elevators during Brexit

 

For the European lift industry as a whole, Brexit is not expected to have huge damaging consequences if Britain can obtain membership in the European Economic Area following the examples of:

  • Norway
  • Iceland
  • Liechtenstein

or create a dedicated trade situation with the EU as is the case for Switzerland. Noteworthy however is the fact that all these bilateral agreements foresee not only the free circulation of goods and services between the signatories, but also of people. As all other industrial sectors, the lift industry in Europe is most sensitive to uncertainty. As long as the present lack of stability continues, both exports from and imports to the UK of elevator equipment and components are likely to be affected by this uncertainty. This is also true for investment decisions which may suffer delays.
